Categories & Criteria

This award recognises the contribution of a business or organisation that can demonstrate it is socially responsible by integrating corporate and social responsibilities within its commercial activities over the last 12 months.

Judges will consider:

• An explanation and evidence of the outcomes of activities associated with social responsibility, eg. Volunteering, Fundraising, Community Engagement
• Employment opportunities
• Engaging with and supporting local communities
• Explanation of why CSR fits within the aims and objectives of the business

Application Form – CSR

This award recognises a development and/or partnership that has promoted, commenced or completed a new quality and innovative scheme in Knowsley within the last 12 months. The award is open to all developers/partners (residential, commercial, leisure and retail) including businesses expanding their own sites. It can include projects that are new build, refurbishment, or a transformative project.

Judges will consider:

• Evidence of the benefits of the project, eg. Quality, choice, design, innovation, sustainability, environmental etc.
• The scheme must have been promoted, commenced or completed during the last 12 months (but does not need to be complete).
• Evidence of how the scheme has helped to promote Knowsley as a ‘Place to live, work, visit and invest’
• A scheme(s) that has/will deliver real change to an area, and/or a response to a local or social need.
• Social value eg. Apprenticeships (created/sustained), supporting young people into work, use of local suppliers, use of local skills/labour, bringing other businesses into the supply chain, community engagement/involvement, improved amenities

Application Form – Development of the Year

This award recognises inspirational employees who help to shape and contribute to the success of your business. Nominations may be received for an individual or team within your business that can demonstrate outstanding commitment, drive and enthusiasm that in turn has contributed to improved business performance and reputation over the last 12 months. This category is open to Apprentices as well as established teams or individual staff.

Judges will consider:

• Evidence of commitment to ongoing professional development
• Contribution made to the company in the last 12 months
• ‘Value added’ the attributes and skills that the person or team has brought to your business
• Examples of ‘going above and beyond’ the job description duties e.g. Has increased productivity, raised the company profile, overcome adversity, exceeded expectations, are a positive role model, an excellent ambassador.

Application Form – Employee / Team of the Year 2017

This award recognises a Knowsley business that has made a contribution to the local and national economy through their export achievement over the last 12 months. This category will consider the products exported, success in export markets, growth in export sales and overall performance.

Judges will consider:

• Evidence of how the business has excelled over the last 12 months and how you have grown the export business
• Evidence of your markets eg. Through identifying new or existing countries, adapting current products/range, new products
• Enhancing their international market position and influence and, as a result, putting them and Knowsley on the global map.
• Evidence of sustained increase in international trade relative to the size of your business?
• Any barriers that have been overcome
• The degree to which overseas trade has benefitted the local/regional economy and grown the business

Application Form – Excellence in Export over 249 employees

This award recognises a Knowsley business that has made a contribution to the local and national economy through their export achievement over the last 12 months. This category will consider the products exported, success in export markets, growth in export sales and overall performance.

Judges will consider:

• Evidence of how the business has excelled over the last 12 months and how you have grown the export business

Application Form – Excellence in Export up to 249 employees

This award recognises a business that can demonstrate a significant and positive contribution towards achieving a zero waste to landfill, a significant reduction in carbon emissions, and the contribution to helping Knowsley achieve its credentials as a ‘Green Borough’.

Judges will consider:

• Examples of environmental practices and evidence of their impact eg. Introduction of new processes and systems, product development
• The impact on themselves or others
• Staff and supply chain engagement
• Achieving environmental standards and credentials that have helped to minimise environmental impact

Application Form – Green Award

This award recognises a business or partnership that has made a significant and beneficial investment in Knowsley during the last 12 months.

Judges will consider:

• The impact on Knowsley
• The complexity/scale of the investment/partners involved
• The risk and/or uniqueness of the investment and knock on impact
• Outcomes, increased productivity/new development/job creation/social value/local supply chain
• How the investment has raised the profile of Knowsley as a ‘Place to Invest’

Application Form – Investment of the Year

This award recognises a manufacturer with a strong successful track record for manufacturing. We are looking to identify a business that is focused on growth, innovation, R&D, best practice, and is best placed to represent the ‘Made in Knowsley’ brand.

Judges will consider:

• Key operating highlights and achievements during the last 12 months, uniqueness, advanced orders.
• What innovative designs or manufacturing processes have been implemented
• Reasons why you lead in your field and what makes you stand out from the crowd.

Application Form – Manufacturer of the Year over 249 employees

This award recognises a manufacturer with a strong successful track record for manufacturing. We are looking to identify a business that is focused on growth, innovation, R&D, best practice, and is best placed to represent the ‘Made in Knowsley’ brand.

Judges will consider:

• Key operating highlights and achievements during the last 12 months, uniqueness, advanced orders.
• What innovative designs or manufacturing processes have been implemented
• Reasons why you lead in your field and what makes you stand out from the crowd.

Application Form – Manufacturer of the Year up to 249 employees

This award recognises a Knowsley based business that commenced trading after 1 January 2016 with a turnover less than £1m. Applications are invited from businesses operating in the private, public or third sector.

Judges will consider:

• Evidence of a sustainable and financially viable business with a clear operational structure
• Job creation
• Evidence of a vision and strategy for growth
• Market awareness including the service and/or product offer
• A growth in sales and a successful track record of business development

Application Form – Newcomer the Year

This award recognises the contribution to the growing retail sector of Knowsley. We are looking for a Retailer, organisation or individual whose contribution has delivered a vibrant retail offer or shopping destination, has a direct impact and engagement with the community, is exceeding customer expectations and satisfaction, and has done the most to enhance the retail offer of Knowsley. This award is open to all retail businesses, organisations or individuals trading in Knowsley or on-line businesses based in Knowsley.

Judges will consider:

• Evidence of the success of the business during the last 12 months (turnover/profit/new customers)
• The range products and services you sell
• Evidence of the ‘customer experience and customer satisfaction’

Application Form – Retailer of the Year 2017

The award for this category is open to small businesses or sole traders based in Knowsley (not part of a larger organisation).

Judges will consider:

• Growth and financial performance to date
• Key achievements
• Niche markets
• Customer and staff engagement
• Workforce development
• Evidence of innovation, effective leadership and management
• Future growth plans and contribution to Knowsley

Application Form – Small Business of the Year

The award for this category is open to businesses based in Knowsley (not part of a larger organisation).

Judges will consider:

• Growth and financial performance to date
• Key achievements
• Niche markets
• Customer and staff engagement
• Workforce development
• Evidence of innovation and effective leadership and management
• Future growth plans and contribution to Knowsley

Application Form – SME of the Year

The Transport and Logistics sector plays a key part in Knowsley’s success. This award will recognise a business that is contributing to this success.

Judges will consider:

• A business with a strong trading history showing continued growth
• A business that has established itself as a major distribution hub in Knowsley
• Evidence of success e.g. How you lead in your field, what plans you have for the continued success of the business and why you chose Knowsley as your location.
