Project Description

Corporate Social Responsibility – Sponsored by Jaguar Land Rover

Jaguar Land Rover is the UK’s largest automotive manufacturer, built around two iconic British car brands: Land Rover, the world’s leading manufacturer of premium all-wheel-drive vehicles; and Jaguar, one of the world’s premier luxury sports saloon and sports car marques. The company employs 40,000 people globally and supports around 240,000 more through our dealerships, suppliers and local businesses.

At Jaguar Land Rover, we are driven by a desire to create class-leading products that deliver great customer experiences. We are the largest investor in R&D in the UK manufacturing sector and have invested £15 billion over the last six years.

The business is a major wealth generator for the UK with 80 percent of sales exported to more than 170 countries. With investment in product creation and capital expenditure of around £3 billion this fiscal year, JLR is at the centre of the UK automotive industry’s drive to deliver technical innovation in all areas of vehicle development.

The company’s Halewood Operations manufacturing facility in Knowsley produces the award winning Range Rover Evoque, the Land Rover Discovery Sport and the new Range Rover Evoque Convertible. The site employs over 4,200 people directly and has thousands of additional suppliers and contractors working on site in total, 24 hours a day. The plant commenced 24 hour production in 2012 for the first time in its history, to respond to unprecedented customer demand for its vehicles.

Range Rover Evoque has become the most successful Jaguar Land Rover vehicle in the company’s history and JLR is now the largest car maker in the UK.

JLR has invested over £130m into Halewood in 2016/17. This investment includes two large building extensions and a new £70m servo press line. Today, one in every three Land Rovers sold around the world is a Merseyside built Evoque or Discovery Sport. Merseyside is underpinning the global growth of JLR.

Halewood Operations has a wide-reaching CSR programme which aims to build and strengthen relationships with key business and community stakeholders, support local community initiatives and position the plant as the employer of choice. Each year, we welcome 6,000 young people from Merseyside and beyond to the plant to inspire the next generation of engineers. Our employees support various charities and community groups both in and outside work including our recent charity of the year, the James Apter Friendship Fund.
