Apprentice of the Year

Celebrating the significance and rewards of apprenticeships. This award showcases apprentices who have made impressive progress in their career and who show the potential to take a career path to the very top of their chosen profession.

In shortlisting Judges will consider:

  • Apprentices who are making a significant contribution in their workplace and have shown a dedication to excel in their professional development and learning
  • Exemplary commitment to the workplace
  • Education and training
  • Qualities and attributes which make the apprentice an exemplary member of the team
  • Consistent development of skills and promotes their value to employers.

Commercial Development of the Year

This award recognises a commercial development that has invested, commenced on site or has completed a new quality/innovative scheme in Knowsley within the last 12 months.

In shortlisting Judges will consider:

  • Evidence of the benefits of the project, eg.  quality, choice, design, innovation, sustainability, environmental etc
  • The scheme must have been promoted, commenced or completed during the last 12 months (but does not need to be complete)
  • Evidence of how the scheme has helped / will help to promote Knowsley as a ‘Place to live, work, visit and invest’
  • A scheme(s) that has / will deliver real change to an area, or provide employment opportunities for local residents
  • Social value eg.  apprenticeships (created / sustained),  supporting young people into work, use of local suppliers, use of local skills / labour, bringing other businesses into the supply chain, community engagement/involvement, improved amenities
  • Before and after photographs.

Contractor of the Year

Celebrating contractors based in Knowsley or working on a Knowsley project who can demonstrate excellent performance in their field and / or added value to a project / scheme. Judges will look for evidence of the quality of the people, processes and projects for which the contractor was responsible.

In shortlisting Judges will consider:

  • Evidence of the success of the business during the last 12 months
  • What were the local benefits maximised by this contractor? E.g. supply chain, local labour
  • Evidence of the ‘customer experience and customer satisfaction’
  • Promotion of the sector to encourage future entrants to the construction trade
  • Details of projects in Knowsley
  • Reasons why this contractor stands out from the crowd
  • Before and after photographs.

Corporate Social Responsibility Award

This award recognises the “Knowsley Better Together” ethos and honours the contribution of a business or organisation that can demonstrate its corporate and social responsibilities within its commercial activities over the last 12 months.

In shortlisting Judges will consider:

  • An explanation and evidence of the outcomes of activities associated with social responsibility, eg. volunteering, fundraising, community/staff engagement
  • Social value e.g. apprenticeships, supporting young people into work, use of local suppliers
  • Knowsley Better Together, recognising that more positive benefits can be achieved by working together and pooling resources and skills which will in turn will result in better outcomes for Knowsley and its residents
  • Employment opportunities
  • Engaging with and supporting local communities, groups and voluntary sector
  • Explanation of why CSR fits within the aims and objectives of the business.

Developing Future Skills

This award recognises businesses that have done the most to promote opportunities in their sector and build the skills of the workforce of the future. A business that seeks to raise aspirations for young people.

In shortlisting Judges will consider:

  • How a business has raised aspirations and ambition by promoting career opportunities in their sector
  • A business which is committed to equipping our future workforce with the necessary skills and can demonstrate partnership working with educational bodies
  • Support young people to develop and adapt to changing needs, helping build resilience and confidence
  • Provides valuable work experience placements enabling students to gain hands on experience into ‘the world of work’
  • Evidence of what those experiences have provided, future job placements, testimonials
  • Innovation and creativity
  • Reasons why the business is passionate about the future workforce and what makes the business stand out from the crowd.

Employee/Team of the Year

This award recognises inspirational employees who help to shape and contribute to the success of your business, have overcome barriers and are an example to others.

In shortlisting Judges will consider:

  • Evidence of commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Contribution made to the company in the last 12 months
  • ‘Value added’ the  attributes and skills that the person or team has brought to your business
  • Examples of ‘going above and beyond’ the job description duties – e.g. increased productivity, raised the company profile, overcome adversity, exceeded expectations, is a positive role model or an excellent ambassador.

Excellence in Manufacturing/Logistics Up to 100 employees (not part of a larger group)

Excellence in Manufacturing/Logistics over 100 employees

Celebrating excellence and best practice in Knowsley’s leading manufacturing and logistics sectors and in recognition of our smaller and larger businesses, two awards will be presented in recognition of the impact these sectors have on Knowsley’s growth and economy. Open to businesses with their distribution hub in Knowsley and/or is best placed to represent the ‘Made in Knowsley’ brand.

In shortlisting Judges will consider:

  • A business with a strong trading history showing continued growth
  • A business that is viewed by its peers and customers as a leader in their field
  • Evidence of success e.g. how you lead in your field, what plans you have for the continued success of the business and why you chose Knowsley as your location
  • What innovative practices, processes, systems or technologies have been implemented?
  • Reasons why you stand out from the crowd.

Housing Development of the Year

This award recognises a housing development that has promoted, commenced on site or has completed a new quality/innovative scheme in Knowsley within the last 12 months. The award can include new build, refurbished or transformative projects.

In shortlisting Judges will consider:

  • Evidence of the benefits of the project, e.g.  quality, choice, design, innovation, sustainability, environmental etc
  • The scheme must have commenced or completed during the last 12 months (but does not need to be complete)
  • Evidence of how the scheme has helped to promote Knowsley as a ‘Place to live, work, visit and invest’
  • A scheme(s) that has / will deliver real change to an area, and/or a response to a local or social need
  • Social value e.g.  Apprenticeships (created / sustained),  supporting young people into work, use of local suppliers, use of local skills / labour, bringing other businesses into the supply chain, community engagement/involvement, improved amenities
